Since its creation in 1992, Le Concert de l'Hostel Dieu has been a major player on the French Baroque scene. The ensemble stands out for its sensitive and dynamic interpretation of 18th-century vocal and instrumental repertoire, systematically favoring a historical and philological approach.
Under the direction of Franck-Emmanuel Comte, the ensemble defends the originality and specificity of a regional repertoire by promoting Baroque manuscripts preserved in the libraries of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The ensemble has produced a number of restitutions and editions of previously unpublished scores, reflecting Lyon's special ties with Italy.
Transposing the richness and diversity of Baroque music into our own time is also one of the major artistic axes of the Concert de l'Hostel Dieu. Nurtured by stimulating artistic collaborations, the ensemble brings Baroque aesthetics together with cultures and artists from diverse horizons. Renewing the concertante form, its creations are also designed to reach out to new audiences from different generations and regions.
Le Concert de l'Hostel Dieu places at the heart of its projects casts of young international soloists, spotted at academies or major European singing competitions such as the Concours international de chant baroque de Froville.
Through these restitution and creation projects, Franck-Emmanuel Comte defends one and the same commitment: that of sharing with audiences and young artists a unique and lively repertoire, while questioning the classical concert form. With this in mind, he skilfully hosts conferences and enlightening forewords, proposes concert-readings and master-classes, and designs didactic videos and innovative concert forms; all tools that Franck-Emmanuel Comte uses to transmit his passion to a wide audience that goes far beyond the usual boundaries of the specialist scholarly music public.
