Separatist is an Australian technical death metal and Christian deathcore band formed in 2003 in Hobart, Tasmania. The founding lineup consisted of vocalist Sam Dishington, known as “Disho”, guitarists James Brady and Dave Gilbert, bassist Luke Ranson, and drummer Matt Carter. In 2007, guitarist Mitch Golding joined the group. Separatist released its debut album, The Motionless Apocalypse, in May 2008 through Reverb Productions. In April 2011, the band became inactive following internal disagreements and a hardware failure that destroyed the data for their second album. Dishington resumed activity under the Separatist name as a solo project in 2014. That year, he released the double album Closure and Motionless, which utilized original compositions from the lost 2011 recordings. Profits from these releases were donated to the anti-human trafficking A21 Campaign. Dishington also appeared on several Christian Deathcore compilations.
