Backsliders, an Australian blues-based band, formed in Sydney in 1986. The group initially consisted of guitarist/vocalist Dom Turner and drummer Peter Burgess, with harmonica player Rex Hill joining later. Their debut album Preaching Blues was released in 1988 after a live performance at Sydney Town Hall. Throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s, Backsliders toured extensively across Australia, performing at major festivals such as the Port Fairy Folk Festival and Woodford Folk Festival. In 2000, drummer Rob Hirst joined the band, replacing Peter Burgess. The group released other notable albums including Hellhound (1991), Poverty Deluxe (1999), and Hanoi (2002). In 2011, they were nominated for the ARIA Music Award for Best Blues and Roots Album. Their 2020 album Bonecrunch was noted for its innovative take on the blues genre.
