Fusing epic shoegaze textures with melodic alt-rock and dream pop, Northern Irish quintet Wynona Bleach officially formed in Belfast in 2018. Under the former name R51, the initial lineup of singer Melyssa Shannon, guitarist Jonny Woods, bassist Anton Hughes, Guitarist Aaron Black and drummer Matt Killen issued their debut EP "Pillow Talk" in 2015. They appeared at Leeds and Reading festivals in 2015 in support of this debut EP, & continued by self-releasing 2016's No Chill EP followed by a headlining tour of Russia. Weeks before this tour, founding bassist Anton Hughes announced his departure from the band, which saw the addition of Carl Gilmore.
In January of 2018, the group began working under the name Wynona Bleach and issued the single "Eyes Burning,". They followed this up with a self-titled EP "Sugar", pressed on limited edition transparent green vinyl under their own label "Madame Mazu Records".
in 2019/2020 Wynona Bleach moved a full recording studio from Belfast to an abandoned warehouse near Coimbra, Portugal, where they lived & worked with Bill Ryder-Jones (The Coral) to record their first full length LP "Moonsoake" - a release delayed by covid restrictions and vinyl-shortages. The album was partly mixed by Grammy Nominated mixing engineers Avril Mackintosh and Andy Bradfield (Rufus Wainright, Manic St. Preachers, The XX + more).
As of mid 2021, they have released two singles from this long awaited album, "Glimmer" and "Drag".
