Stan Coster, born on May 27, 1930, in Casino, New South Wales, Australia, was a country music singer-songwriter. He left school at 14 and worked various jobs before joining a traveling rodeo at age 20. Coster began his musical career in the late 1950s, writing songs that were later recorded by Slim Dusty, including "Return of the Stockman" (1962). His breakthrough came with the Golden Guitar for APRA Song of the Year in 1977 for "Three Rivers Hotel", recorded by Dusty. Coster released his debut album My People in 1979, followed by several others including Songs from a Wanderer’s Pen (1981) and The Song Maker (1982). He won another Golden Guitar for APRA Song of the Year in 1987 for "He's a Good Bloke When He's Sober" and was awarded an OAM for Services to Country Music in 1989. Coster died from cancer on March 25, 1997.
