Günther Groissböck, born on September 24, 1976, in Waidhofen an der Ybbs, Austria, is a prominent opera singer known for his bass roles. He began playing the piano at eight and later studied singing under Robert Holl and José van Dam at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Groissböck's professional debut was in 2002 with Die Liebe der Danae at the Zurich Opera, followed by engagements at the Wiener Staatsoper. In 2010, he debuted at the Metropolitan Opera in New York as Colline in Puccini's La Bohème. Notable roles include Sarastro in The Magic Flute, Landgrave Hermann in Wagner’s Tannhäuser, and Boris Godunov. His performance as Baron Ochs in Der Rosenkavalier at the Metropolitan Opera earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best Opera Recording in 2018. Groissböck has performed extensively across Europe, including at La Scala in Milan and the Bayreuth Festival.
