Joaquín Nin Castellanos, born on September 29, 1879, in Havana, Cuba, was a pianist and composer. At age two, his family moved to Barcelona, where he began piano lessons. From 1905 to 1908, he taught at the Schola Cantorum in Paris and performed extensively as a pianist. He later settled in Paris from 1912 to 1939, where he composed and gave lectures. Notable works include 20 Spanish Songs for voice and piano (1923) and In Lindaraja's Garden for violin and piano (1927). He was a member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid and was named a knight of the Legion of Honor in June 1929. He returned to Cuba in 1940 and died on October 24, 1949, in Havana.
