Alfred Janson, born on 10 March 1937 in Oslo, Norway, was a pianist and composer. He debuted on piano in 1962, presenting the piece November and then the orchestral Vuggesang (1963). In 1966, his piece Konstruksjon og hymne won the Bilhoven Festival prize, and the same year his Kanon gained international attention at the ISCM World Music Days. Janson’s notable works include the ballet Mot solen (1969), the opera Et fjelleventyr (1972), and the politically charged A Bagdad Blues (2003). He received the Lindeman Prize (1988), the Edvard Prize (2008), and the Gammleng Award (2010). Janson passed away on 19 May 2019.
