Benestrophe was an American electronic music group formed in 1989, consisting of Gary Dassing and Dwayne Dassing. The brothers initially experimented with traditional rock instruments before transitioning to synthesizers and samplers. Their early recordings were released as Sensory Deprivation and Auric Fires on Ras Dva Records. Benestrophe disbanded in 1989 due to competing obligations, leading Gary Dassing to produce demo tapes that eventually caught the attention of Technology Works fanzine. This exposure led to the formation of Mentallo & The Fixer, a project that saw significant releases such as No Rest for the Wicked and collaborations with labels like Metropolis Records. Benestrophe's material laid the groundwork for Gary Dassing's subsequent solo work under the Mentallo & The Fixer name, which included notable albums like Algorythum and Love Is the Law.
