Stars Like Fleas, a Brooklyn-based band, was formed in 1998 by multi-instrumentalist Shannon Fields and vocalist Montgomery Knott. The group is known for blending avant-jazz, free improvisation, electronic textures, and multiple overdubbed vocal lines, often drawing comparisons to Talk Talk and Robert Wyatt. Their debut album, Took the Ass for a Drive, was released in 2000. The band's lineup has included notable musicians such as Ryan Smith, Ryan Sawyer, Matt Lavelle, Sam Amidon, and Laura Ortman. Their subsequent albums include Sun Lights Down on the Fence (2003) and their album Took the Ass for a Drive, digitally re-released by File 13 in 2006. They also released the album, The Ken Burns Effect, in 2007, under Talitres Records in Europe and Hometapes in the US. The band has collaborated with members of various notable acts, including At the Drive-In, Beirut, and TV on the Radio.
