Christian Lindberg, born February 15, 1958, in Danderyd, Sweden, is a trombonist, conductor, and composer. He began playing the trumpet before switching to the trombone at age 16 and joined the Royal Swedish Opera Orchestra by 18. Lindberg's breakthrough came with his victory at the Nordic Soloists' Biennale competition in 1981. His concert debut followed in 1984 with Henri Tomasi's Trombone Concerto, and he signed a recording contract with BIS Records that same year, releasing his first solo album, The Virtuoso Trombone. Lindberg has recorded over 60 albums and is known for expanding the repertoire of concerti for trombone. He began composing in the 1990s, with notable works including Arabenne and Mandrake in the Corner. Lindberg has received several awards, including the International Trombone Association Award in 1991.
