These Animal Men were an English rock group formed in Brighton in 1989, comprising Alexander Boag on vocals and guitar, Julian Hewings on backing vocals and guitar, Patrick Murray on bass, Steve Hussey on drums until 1996, and later Craig Warnock on keyboards and Rob Hague on drums. The band signed to Hut Records, an offshoot of Virgin Records, in 1993 and gained initial attention with singles such as "You're Not My Babylon" and "Speeed King", both released in 1994, which featured drug references in their artwork and lyrics. Their debut album, Come on, Join The High Society, was issued on 24 September 1994 and positioned them within the New Wave of New Wave movement, alongside contemporaries SMASH. In 1995 the group issued the EP Taxi for These Animal Men, and three years later they released their second album, Accident & Emergency, on 14 April 1997; despite critical acclaim, the album achieved modest chart positions, peaking at UK number 192. After recording difficulties and the departure of drummer Steve Hussey, the band dissolved in 1998. Subsequent projects by former members included Mo Solid Gold, The Orphans, and Thee Orphans, but none replicated the initial impact of These Animal Men, who briefly reunited for a sold‑out show in September 2015 in support of the documentary Flawed is Beautiful.
