Alan Price was born April 19, 1942 in Fatfield, County Durham, England, and is an English musician and songwriter who first gained prominence as the original organist for The Animals. After leaving the band in 1965, he formed the Alan Price Set, scoring UK chart hits with "I Put a Spell on You" (number 9), "Hi-Lili, Hi-Lo" (number 11), and "Simon Smith and His Amazing Dancing Bear" (number 4). In 1967, he released the album A Price on His Head. His 1971 collaboration with Georgie Fame produced the album Fame and Price, Price and Fame, Together and the hit single "Rosetta" (number 11). Price composed the score for Lindsay Anderson's film O Lucky Man! (1973) and appeared in the film, while his 1974 album Between Today and Yesterday featured the hit "Jarrow Song" (number 6). His later solo releases included Metropolitan Man (1975), Shouts Across the Street (1976), and England My England (1978), and he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 as a member of The Animals.
