Hans Mathisen (born July 27, 1967) was a Norwegian jazz guitarist and composer from Sandefjord. Known for performances inspired by Pat Metheny and Wes Montgomery, Mathisen was the brother of jazz musicians Per, Nils, and Ole Mathisen. He graduated from the jazz program at Trondheim Musikkonservatorium in 1990. Mathisen contributed to the album Lover Man (1995) and performed with the band Quaternion on the recording Timbuktu (1997). He released his debut solo album, L.U.G.N, in 1998, followed by Quiet Songs in 2005, which received the Spellemannprisen award in the jazz category. Mathisen composed the score for the film Kitchen Stories (2003) and released the albums Timeless Tales (2011) and Orchestral Works (2017). He led the Sandefjord Storband and taught at Sandefjord videregående skole. In 2010, he wrote the commissioned work “Lysande Mørker”.
