Hartlepool’s MARKETPLACE return with their new single, “Fruit”, on Friday 5th July 2024. Recorded with Chad Rodgers (Benjamin Francis Leftwich, Cape Cub) in Newcastle, the track is taken from their debut EP, “MARKETPLACE HAVE MADE AN EP!”. The track is a summer anthem which looks set to cement the band’s place as one of the most exciting emerging artists in the North East right now.
“When we wrote the track I was at University still and I think I’d just fallen out with someone that I had a bit of a toxic friendship with so that was on mind” explains songwriter Joel O’Beirne. “It was nice to write this one though as lyrically everyone was involved and I think that’s when we write some of our best stuff in my opinion, it’s always the most fun!”
Drawing influences from a wide range of artists including Grouplove, Mystery Jets, Hippo Campus and Talking Heads, the band made up of Evie Rhodes (vocals/guitar), Joel O’Beirne (vocals/bass), Jack Purcell (guitar), Matthew Short (synth/vocals) and Ross Dixon (drums) bring their own individual tastes to create the signature MARKETPLACE sound.
Previous releases have seen the band soar to new heights, being named by BBC Introducing as “Ones to Watch”, and receiving Track of the Week by BBC Tees Introducing for their last 3 consecutive singles.
With widespread backing already from tastemakers, support slots with Alfie Templeman, Swim Deep, and Abbie Ozard as well as selling out gigs in Manchester, Leeds and their hometown of Hartlepool, MARKETPLACE are certainly ready to make their mark.
