Floyd Jones was an American blues singer and guitarist born on July 21, 1917 in Marianna. Jones achieved professional recognition for a musical career characterized by electric blues and the Chicago blues idiom. He achieved professional recognition for a career that began after the musician Howling Wolf gave him a guitar and he performed as an itinerant musician. Jones achieved professional recognition for moving to Chicago in 1945 and performing on Maxwell Street with the musician Little Walter and the musician Jimmy Rogers. His recording career began with the song “Stockyard Blues” (1947) and the song “Keep What You Got” (1947) released on the label Marvel. Jones achieved professional recognition for recording with the labels JOB, Chess, and Vee-Jay. His discography included a collaborative recording for the Masters of Modern Blues series (1966) with the musician Eddie Taylor. Jones achieved professional recognition for the song “On the Road Again” which was recorded by the ensemble Canned Heat and reached the top 10 on the charts in 1968. His recording career included the collaborative studio recording Old Friends Together for the First Time (1981) released on the label Earwig. He achieved professional recognition for performing as an electric bass player in his later career. Jones died on December 19, 1989 in Chicago.
