The Mirettes, a female vocal trio from the United States of America, were formed in 1966 by Robbie Montgomery, Jessie Smith, and Venetta Fields. Prior to forming The Mirettes, these three women performed as The Ikettes, serving as background singers and dancers for Ike & Tina Turner's revue. Their initial success with "Peaches 'n' Cream" (Number 28 US R&B, Number 36 US Billboard Hot 100) and "I'm So Thankful" (Number 12 US R&B, Number 74 US Billboard Hot 100) led to a management dispute that prompted their departure from the Turner revue. In 1966, they signed with Mirwood Records under the management of Tina Turner's sister, Alline Bullock, and changed their name to The Mirettes due to legal constraints.The Mirettes released two singles on Mirwood Records before moving to Revue Records, where their cover of "In the Midnight Hour" reached Number 18 US R&B and Number 45 US Billboard Hot 100 in March 1968. Their debut album, In The Midnight Hour, followed that same year. In 1969, they released their second album, Whirlpool, on UNI Records. Venetta Fields left the group in 1970 to form The Blackberries with Sherlie Matthews and Clydie King. Pat Powdrill joined The Mirettes as a replacement, but the group disbanded in 1971.
