Musica Fiata Köln is a German early music ensemble based in Cologne, founded in 1976 by British cornettist Roland Wilson. After studying trumpet at the Royal College of Music in London, Wilson settled in West Germany and established the ensemble to perform 16th- and 17th-century music on period instruments. In 1992, he expanded the group by creating Capella Ducale, a vocal ensemble intended to provide stylistic unity for large-scale sacred works. Musica Fiata has built an international reputation for historically informed performances of Renaissance and Baroque repertoire. Its extensive discography includes recordings of works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Giovanni Gabrieli, Alessandro Grandi, Johann Rosenmüller, Johann Joseph Fux, and Giovanni Valentini. The ensemble has released albums on labels including Deutsche Harmonia Mundi, CPO, and Sony Vivarte.
