Paul Matavire, born on August 3, 1961, in Maranda, Mwenezi District, Zimbabwe, worked as a blind musician and songwriter. Matavire began a career in the 1980s upon joining the Jairos Jiri Band at the Jairos Jiri Rehabilitation Centre in Bulawayo. Matavire rose to prominence as one of Zimbabwe's musicians post-independence. Deep lyrics earned Matavire the nickname Dr. Love, and the music featured social commentary and humor. Notable songs include "Dhiyabhorosi Nyoka", which sparked controversy with references to biblical Eve. The Jairos Jiri Band, led by Matavire, released 13 albums including Zimbe Remoto (2003). The music maintained popularity throughout the years. Matavire died on October 18, 2005, at a farm in Rutenga, Masvingo. Matavire also released the album Asipo Haapo (1996).
