Melon Kinenbi, a Japanese girl group formed under Hello! Project, debuted on February 2000. The band consisted of Hitomi Saito, Megumi Murata, Masae Ōtani, and Ayumi Shibata, all from Tokyo. They were formed after successfully passing the 2nd Morning Musume & Michiyo Heike Imotobun Audition in 1999. Melon Kinenbi released their debut single "Denwa Matteimasu" on March 7, 2001, marking their official entry into the music scene. Melon Kinenbi's career spanned over a decade, during which they released several albums and singles. Their notable works include Mega Melon (2008), MELON'S NOT DEAD (2010), and FRUITY KILLER TUNE (2006). They also collaborated with other Japanese punk-rock groups for limited-release indie singles after their graduation from Hello! Project on March 31, 2009. The group announced their disbandment following their final tour activities in May 2010 and performed together for the last time on May 3 at Nakano Sun Plaza. Melon Kinenbi reunited temporarily in April 2011 to support relief efforts after the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, and again in December 2013 for the Hello! Project Countdown Party event. One of their singles, "ONEGAI MIWAKU NO TARGET", was released in 2006 as an indie, later released as a remix version in 2007
