John Kerr was a British composer and musician of electronic music born on September 16, 1948, in Swindon. He began studying piano at age seven followed by the church organ and double bass. Kerr paused his musical studies at age 18 to study graphic design at the Bath Academy of Arts. He relocated to Amsterdam in 1978, and worked as a graphic designer until 1992. His recording career began with the debut studio recording Cathedral (1983), which received airplay on Dutch television and radio. He collaborated with the musician Ron Boots on the studio recording Offshore Islands (1990). In 1992, he achieved recognition at the Schwingungen awards, winning for best artist, best track for "The Seed", and best album for Norland (1992). His discography included the studio recording Knights (1984), Three by Three Plus Two (1986), Reflections of Citadel (1987), Forbidden (1994), Imminent Shadows (1995), Moon (1998), and Out of the Blue (2000). Following a 15-year hiatus, he released the collaborative studio recording Juxtaposition (2015). Kerr died on September 13, 2020, in Amsterdam.
