Hailing from Ronchin, near Lille (Nord), Skip the Use was formed in 2008 around singer and multi-instrumentalist Mat Bastard, a former member of Carving. In 2009, they released their first self-produced album, showcasing their danceable, energetic rock. The five protagonists, signed to the Polydor label, saw their audience grow with the following album Can Be Late (2012) and its lead single, "Ghost". After a nomination at the Victoires de la Musique awards in 2012, the band won the trophy for Best Rock Album the following year. Buoyed by this national success, Skip the Use continued to play concerts and make festival appearances, before returning to the studio for the album Little Armageddon (2014), made with producers Dimitri Tikovoï and Adrian Bushby and nominated at the Victoires de la musique awards in 2015. In 2016, Mat Bastard announced the end of the band to devote himself to his solo career, with the release of the album LOOV (2017). Finally, Skip the Use reformed in 2018 with Mat Bastard and Yann Stefani (keyboards, guitar) and two new musicians. This new line-up recorded the albums Past & Future (2019), Human Disorder (2022) and Love & Anxiety (2026).
