Exile Key is a collective of artists living in Kakuma Refugee Camp in northwestern Kenya. Founded by Abdul Patient, Amina Rwimo, and Mohamed Minani, it includes talents such as Aoci Ebila Gerrard, Bashiri Juma Omari, Aza Nsabimana, Mercy Akuot, Naomi Nyiel Garang Kucha, and Zabibu Jackson. Hailing from Burundi, Congo, and South Sudan in Africa, Exile Key’s diverse backgrounds bring distinct experiences and musical traditions that they combine into a unique sound. Together, they make music that transforms exile into opportunity and makes a claim to a future for themselves defined not by flight from violent conflict, but by their own purpose and possibility.
