Influenced heavily by 1960s British rock band such as The Rolling Stones, The Animals and The Yardbirds, The Shadows of Knight started out in a suburb of Chicago. Known for aggressive garage-style rock, the band has featured many musicians over the years with founder/vocalist Jimy Sohns the sole survivor.
After playing locally around Illinois, the group landed a recording contract and debuted with 'Gloria' in 1966. The title track by the band Them with Van Morrison, became a substantial hit and a follow-up album fared well. More singles followed but the original line-up departed by 1967 leaving Sohns to ring the changes over subsequent decades with varying success.
Two more albums, 'Back Door Men' and 'Shadows of Knight' were released in '66 and '69, after which the group went quiet until a live offering in the form of 'Raw n' Alive at the Cellar, Chicago 1966' came in 1992.
In 2006, after another period of quiet, The Shadows of Knight joined Little Steven's 'Underground Garage' tour with The Romantics. They also released an album of brand new material titled 'A Knight to Remember' later that year. They followed this up two years later with 'Rock 'n' Roll Survivors'. Since then, Sohns has continued to perform with a variety of different musicians under The Shadows of Knight name, and in 2016 the surviving members of the original line-up reunited for their first performance togther in nearly 50 years.
