Tartar Lamb was a US musical group founded in 2006 as a dark-jazz band by Toby Driver and Mia Matsumiya. The duo initially consisted of Driver on electric guitar and Matsumiya on violin, with guest musicians contributing to their sound. Their debut album, Sixty Metonymies, was released in 2007 through Ice Level Music, featuring guest performances by trumpeter Tim Byrnes and drummer Andrew Greenwald. In 2011, Driver, under the name Tartar II, released two albums: Polyimage of Known Exits via Ice Level Music and Krakow, a live split album with Kayo Dot released by Instant Classic. Both releases received positive critical acclaim. The band's music was characterized as minimalist, avant-garde, and contemporary atonal, often described as cold and desolate, with comparisons to progressive rock and dark jazz groups like Art Zoyd, Univers Zéro, and Bohren & der Club of Gore.
