A French pop-rock band from the Yvelines region, Kyo was formed in 1994 with members Benoît Poher (vocals and guitar), Nicolas Chassagne and Florian Dubos (guitars) and Fabien Dubos (drums, replaced in 2018 by Jocelyn Moze). Gathered around a shared passion for grunge and the graphic universe of manga and video games, they recorded their homonymous debut album, released in 2000, which charted in the French charts at number 71. It was with the following album, Le Chemin, that the band found success. Rated No. 2, it included the singles "Le Chemin" (No. 12), "Dernière danse" (No. 6), "Je cours" (No. 20) and "Je saigne encore" (No. 13). However, it was the following album, 300 Lésions, which gave Kyo its first and only No. 1 in 2004, with the singles "Contact" (No. 8) and "Sarah" (No. 33). Although the group took a break in 2006, so that its members could take part in other projects, such as musicals(Le Roi Soleil, Cléopâtre) and albums for other artists (Jenifer, Emma Daumas), the musicians reunited in 2014 for the recording of the album L'Équilibre (No. 2). In 2017, Kyo tried his hand at electro-pop with his fifth studio album, Dans la Peau (No. 29), then returned to rock in 2021 with his sixth album, La Part des Lions (No. 16). In 2022, Kyo celebrates the 20th anniversary of the inaugural album Le Chemin with a new edition featuring five previously unreleased covers recorded with Cœur de Pirate, Stéphane, Nuit Incolore, Cloud and Suzane. Subsequent albums L'Équilibre and 300 Lésions were also reissued in 2024, the latter including the song "Ma religion dans son regard" written for Johnny Hallyday at the time. In June 2025, the band sold out Paris-Bercy, before the October release of their seventh album Ultraviolent (#8 in France and #6 in Belgium), from which the singles "K17 " and "Hors du temps" were taken.
