Mercy Arms was an Australian indie rock band formed in early 2005. The group consisted of Thom Moore on lead vocals and guitar, Kirin J. Callinan on guitar, Ash Moss on bass guitar, and Julian Sudek on drums and percussion. Their debut performance occurred in April 2005. In 2006, Mercy Arms toured Australia with The Strokes and recorded tracks with Dave Sitek from TV on the Radio. They signed with Capitol Records in the US but parted ways in 2007 due to a merger with Virgin. Their first release was the Kept Low EP, released in August 2007. The band's self-titled debut album, Mercy Arms, issued independently in Australia in August 2008, peaked at number 10 on the ARIA Hitseekers Albums chart. Notable songs from this album included "Down Here, So Long" and "Half Right". Mercy Arms disbanded in February 2009 after touring with the Big Day Out nationally.
