Los Pakines, a Peruvian band formed in 1972 in Lima's Rímac district, initially consisted of Alejandro Torres Liza on timbales and direction, José Torres Liza on first guitar, Oscar Bellido Ríos, and Wilberto "Beto" Mena on second guitar and vocals. The group transitioned from instrumental rock to cumbia under Alberto Maravi's guidance at Infopesa Records. Their breakthrough came with "Caramelo de menta" in 1972. Notable songs include "Tuya en septiembre" and "Amor de Fantasía", the latter used as the theme for the radio program Lo Que el Mundo Necesita es Amor. The band's discography spans over fifty albums, including Los Pakines (1972) and La fiesta inolvidable (1990). They received the Premio Apdayc 2007 as Mejor Grupo Tropical Clásico. The original lineup disbanded in the early 1980s, with José and Alejandro Torres Liza continuing under Los Pakines while Beto Mena and Oscar Bellido formed Sonido Elegante de Oscar y Beto.
