Beverlei Brown is a British soul and R&B singer who began her career singing in her mother’s church choir in Birmingham. She eventually became the leader of the choir and later performed as a soloist with the Clark Sisters. Brown provided vocals for a Fine Young Cannibals album project and joined the group on a worldwide promotional tour. She toured with Ruby Turner for two years and collaborated with artists including Joe Cocker, Simply Red, Snap!, and Babyface. In 1996, she recorded the single “On and On”, though a planned album remained unreleased after her record label folded. Brown signed with Dome Records in 1998 and moved to London to record her debut album Next to You. The album included a duet with Dennis Taylor titled “Could Be You” and was expanded for its United Kingdom release following success in Japan. In the early 2000s, Brown recorded the songs “Part Time Lover”, “Tell Me”, and “Somebody Knows How You Feel”. The track “Somebody Knows How You Feel” reached number 96 on the UK Singles Chart. In 2003, she recorded lead vocals for the Full Flava song “Love Holds No Limit”. Brown collaborated with Justin Hawkins on the song “Ashamed” and performed with him in 2007 during the selection process for the Eurovision Song Contest.
