Eye TV, a New Zealand pop and rock band, was formed in Auckland in 1990 under the original name Nixons. The founding members were lead singer and guitarist Sean Sturm, bassist Mike Scott, and drummer Mark Pollard. In 1993, they released their debut album Eye TV. They toured extensively and gained a solid fan base through student radio organizations broadcasting their music videos. In 1994, after equipment theft, the band adopted a darker sound on their mini-album Special Downtime (1994) and changed their name to Eye TV due to a naming conflict with an American band. Their second album, Birdy-O, released in 1997, featured singles "Snakes and Ladders" and "Wish It All Away". In 2000, Eye TV released their final album, Fire Down Below, which included the single "One Day Ahead" that charted at number 9 on the New Zealand singles chart. The group disbanded in 2001.
