The Cottars, a Canadian musical group from Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, formed in 2000. The initial lineup consisted of siblings Fiona and Ciarán MacGillivray, along with Jimmy and Roseanne MacKenzie. Their debut album, Made in Cape Breton, was released in 2002 and won the Best New Artist award. Following this success, they released On Fire! in 2004, which earned them the "Best Roots/Traditional Album" at the East Coast Music Awards in 2005. Their first American release, Forerunner, came out in 2006 under Rounder Records and included compositions by Tom Waits. The Cottars were nominated for a Gemini Award in 2003 for their performance at the East Coast Music Awards. In March 2006, they embarked on a 25-concert tour with The Chieftains, culminating at Carnegie Hall on St. Patrick's Day. Their later album Feast was released in 2010.
