Robert Bonfiglio, born September 6, 1950 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is an American classical harmonica player. He began playing the diatonic harmonica at age thirteen and initially played in local blues bands. Bonfiglio enrolled at the University of Arizona to study chemistry but shifted his focus to music after attending a seminar by Cham-Ber Huang in Trossingen, Germany. He co-founded the Grand Canyon Music Festival in 1984 with his wife, flautist Clare Hoffman, and has served as its artistic director. Bonfiglio's breakthrough as a concert artist came in 1986 with the world premiere of Henry Cowell's Harmonica Concerto with the Brooklyn Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra. Bonfiglio has performed as a concerto soloist with numerous orchestras worldwide, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Minnesota Orchestra. Notable albums include Through the Raindrops (1992) and Live at the Grand Canyon (1994).
