Britney Spears seemed destined for stardom from childhood, dancing in local revues and singing in the Baptist church choir. She subsequently studied at the Professional Performing Arts School in New York and at the age of eleven won a regular spot on the Disney Channel's 'The New Mickey Mouse Club'. In 1997 she joined girl group innosense and was then signed by Jive Records as a solo act, opening for 'N Sync and Backstreet Boys on tour.
Promoted by a controversial video showing her dancing suggestively dressed in school uniform, her first single 'Baby One More Time' hit number one in both the US and UK and became the top-selling single of 1999. 'Oops!... I Did It Again' and a string of other hits followed with the world fascinated by every detail of her life. The pressures seemed to unhinge her but, after a spell in rehab, 'Womanizer' - from the 2008 album 'Circus' - became her first number one for nearly a decade.
In 2011 she released her seventh album 'Femme Fatale' which topped the US charts, with its lead single 'Hold It Against Me' reaching the same position. The following year she replaced Nicole Scherzinger as a judge on the US 'X-Factor'. After working with will.i.am on his single 'Scream & Shout' from the album '#willpower', Britney hired him to produce her eighth album 'Britney Jean'. At the same time she began her two-year stint at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. The album failed to reach the same successes as her previous records however and she began work on the next one.
'Glory', her ninth album, was released in 2016 debuting at number three on the Billboard 200 and number two in the UK. After having a resident show in Las Vegas from 2013 to 2015, Britney announced that she would take her residency on world tour. The Britney Spears Piece of Me tour began around America before travelling across to Europe in 2018.
