Paolo Angeli, born 14 November 1970 in Sassari, is an Italian guitarist and composer noted for his free‑jazz and Sardinian‑influenced prepared guitar work. After learning from his father, he moved to Bologna in 1989, founded the Laboratorio di Musica & Immagine, and released his debut Dove dormono gli autobus (1995). Subsequent albums include Linee di fuga (1997), Bucato (2003), Tessuti (2007), Free Zone Appleby (2009) with Evan Parker, and Itsunomanika (2011) featuring Takumi Fukushima. Later releases-Sale quanto basta (2013), S'Û (2015), Talea (2017), 22.22 Free Radiohead (2019), and Lema (2025). Angeli is known for developing the prepared Sardinian guitar, an 18-string hybrid instrument combining elements of baritone guitar, cello, and drums, which he uses to create minimalist compositions that merge free jazz, experimental music, and noise-folk.
