The Gents is an English rock ensemble from Doncaster established in 1980. The group consists of the musicians Martin Burton, Steve Chambers, Glyn Davies, and Steve Kendell. They achieved professional recognition for a musical style characterized as mod revival. The ensemble was founded as a cover band performing songs by the ensemble the Who, the Jam, and Madness. They achieved professional recognition for winning the EMI Tetley Supergroup competition in 1981. Their recording career began with the song “The Faker / Le Pink Pantser” (1981). The ensemble achieved professional recognition for the song “Friday on My Mind” (1986) which reached number 95 in the United Kingdom. Their discography included the studio recording How It All Began (1985) and the studio recording Waiting to Be Seen (1987). The ensemble achieved professional recognition for performing on the New Direction National Tour (1985) and at the Mod-Aid charity concert in 1985. The group became inactive in 1989 and resumed activity in 2010. They achieved professional recognition for the compilation recording The Rise and Fall of the Gents (2018) and the song “The Unfinished Business EP” (2018).
