Sayed Khalifa was a Sudanese singer and composer born in 1928 in Al-Dibeiba, near Khartoum. In 1947, he studied at the Arab Music Institute in Cairo. After touring Africa, Khalifa returned to Sudan in 1956 and performed his patriotic anthem "Ya Watani" ("My Homeland"). He released popular songs like "Ana Maly wa Malo", "Mambo as-Sudani", and "Izzayakum Keifinnakum" ("How are you?") throughout the 1950s to the 1980s. His career was impacted by censorship under Omar al-Bashir’s government in 1989, leading to some songs being removed from radio archives. Khalifa passed away on July 2, 2001, in Amman. Posthumously, his work has seen renewed interest with reissues such as "Gameel Basam" ("Beautiful Smile") and "Igd Allooli" ("The Pearl Necklace").
