Ocean Hai, born Hai Mingwei (海鸣威) on 10 July 1982 in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China, is a Chinese pop singer whose early talent was recognised when he won the “New Idol” contest in 2000 and became champion of the National Street Dance contest in 2002. After appearing as a special guest in Jacky Cheung’s music drama 雪狼湖 in 2005, he signed with Emperor Entertainment Group in 2006 following a second place finish on CCTV’s 梦想中国. His debut album, Dance Dance Dance, was released on 19 May 2007, featuring the lead single “老人与海”. In 2010 he issued the album 我的回忆不是我的, and he continued to release singles such as “大驾光临” (3 January 2019), “万里长城永不倒” (16 August 2019) and “少年游” (29 September 2020). Ocean Hai’s work spans Mandarin and Cantonese releases and he remains active in contemporary Chinese pop music.
