Max Sharam, born Leanne Maree Sharam in 1969 in Benalla, Victoria, is an Australian singer known for her contributions to pop and alternative rock music. She began her career by traveling around Europe, where she initially made a living from busking. In 1992, she performed her self-penned song "Coma" on the television talent show New Faces, reaching the finals and attracting the attention of record companies. She signed with Warner Music Australia in 1994, releasing her debut EP Coma. Her debut album, A Million Year Girl, was released in May 1995, achieving gold accreditation and reaching number 9 on the ARIA Albums Chart. The album spawned three Top 40 singles: "Coma" (number 14), "Be Firm" (number 25), "Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)", a cover of Melanie Safka's song that reached number 36. At the ARIA Music Awards of 1995, Max Sharam was nominated in eight categories, winning the ARIA Award for Best Cover Art with Dominic O'Brien. Following several sell-out national tours, Max Sharam moved to Los Angeles and later to Manhattan, New York, where she continued her artistic pursuits including writing, performing, and producing music for various projects. In 2015, she released the extended play The Gods Envy, which included the track "Hysteria."
