The Fools, a musical group from Ipswich, Massachusetts, USA, formed in 1976. The band initially consisted of Mike Girard on vocals and Rich Bartlett on guitar, along with other members who would later join. In 1976, the lineup solidified with Stacey Pedrick (guitar), Doug Forman (bass), and Chris Pedrick (drums). Their breakthrough came in 1979 with the release of "Psycho Chicken", a parody of Talking Heads' "Psycho Killer" that became an immediate hit on Boston radio stations. This success was followed by their debut album, Sold Out, released in 1980 under EMI America. The band's second album, Heavy Mental (1981), featured the cover of Roy Orbison's "Running Scared", which reached number 50 on the Billboard Hot 100. They toured extensively, including opening for Van Halen on their Fair Warning tour in 1981. The Fools released several notable albums throughout the 1980s and 1990s, including World Dance Party (1985), which received considerable radio airplay and MTV exposure with its single "Do Wah Diddy". In 2010, Mike Girard published a book titled Psycho Chicken & Other Foolish Tales, chronicling the band's history.
