Professor Ratbaggy is an Australian musical group based in Melbourne, formed in 1999, featuring iconic Australian singer-songwriter Paul Kelly among its members. Professor Ratbaggy's name is derived from the 1960s Australian TV character "Professor Ratbaggy," portrayed by Ernie Carroll. The group released their self-titled debut album Professor Ratbaggy on October 25, 1999, under EMI. Their music often featured instrumental and groove-based tracks with reggae, dub, and funk influences. In 2001, the band provided the original music for the film Lantana, which was released as a soundtrack album by EMI. The song "Love Letter" from their debut album was used in the ABC-TV series Fireflies in 2004. Due to Paul Kelly’s extensive solo career and work in film and television composition, Professor Ratbaggy has maintained a limited schedule of live performances and releases.
