The lyric-dramatic soprano, Arax Mansourian, a major star in her native Armenia, made her operatic debut as Elisabetta in Verdi’s Don Carlo which proved a huge success. It was followed by principal soprano roles in Aida, Pagliacci, Il trovatore, Queen of Spades, David Bek and Anoush. She toured internationally with concerts with repertoire that included works of European, Russian and Armenian composers, liturgical music, Komitas (the esteemed father of Armenian music), as well as the works of her brother - the renowned composer Tigran Mansurian.
In the 90s Arax Mansourian was contracted as a Principal Artist with Opera Australia where she extended her repertoire with major roles in Tosca, Turandot, Cavalleria rusticana, Káťa Kabanová, Andrea Chénier, The Love for Three Oranges, Otello as well as Aida, and Don Carlo. Arax Mansourian also appeared with various state companies. Her concert repertoire included Beethoven’s Choral Symphony, Britten’s War Requiem and Verdi’s requiem as well as many other concert programs. Her voice and artistry can be seen and heard on several commercial recordings.
