Austin Lace, a Belgian pop and alternative rock band from Nivelles in Wallonia, was formed in 1997 by Fabrice Detry, John Bretzel, Enzo Porta, Fred Stiens, and Yann Luyckfasseel. The band's initial steps included recording a three-track demo and releasing their first EP, Subtitles, in 1999 on the Belgian label 62 TV Records. Their debut LP, Commodore Pace, also released by 62 TV Records, followed in 2000. In 2004, Lionel Detry replaced Yann Luyckfasseel for the EP, Wax. The group's subsequent album releases included Easy To Cook (2004) and The Motherman (2008), featuring the single "Kats". Thierry Debrouwer joined as a guitarist in 2008, while Matthieu Frances replaced Enzo Porta on keyboards.
