Kyle Carey, born in 1988 in Laconia, New Hampshire, is an American singer blending Americana and Celtic music. Raised by schoolteacher parents, she spent her early years in Yup'ik native communities in Alaska before moving back to New Hampshire. After studying English literature at Skidmore College, Carey traveled to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, on a Fulbright Fellowship to study Scottish Gaelic song and traditional music. In 2009–2010, she attended Sabhal Mòr Ostaig on the Isle of Skye, earning a certificate in Scottish Gaelic language and music. Her professional career began with the 2011 release of her debut album Monongah, recorded in Dingle, Ireland, and produced by Lùnasa guitarist Donogh Hennessy. In 2013, she released the EP One Morning in May. In September 2014, she released her second full-length album, North Star. Carey's third album, The Art of Forgetting, was released in January 2018 on Riverboat Records and reached number 3 on the Folk DJ Charts in January 2018 and number 24 on the Euroamericana Charts in February 2018.
