The Matadors, an R&B band from Prague, Czechoslovakia, formed in early 1965 under the name Fontána. The group coalesced from two other bands, Pra-Be and Komety, and initially performed exclusively in East Germany until April 1966. Their first releases included the EPs Farmer John (1966) and Hate Everything Except Of Hatter (1967). In 1968, they released their self-titled debut studio album, shortly before disbanding due to internal disagreements over a performance offer for the musical Hair. Key members such as Radim Hladík went on to form notable groups like Blue Effect and Emergency. The band reunited intermittently between 1991 and 2008.
