The Paperbacks were a Canadian indie rock and pop music band based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Formed in 2000 after the disbanding of local punk-rock act The Bonaduces, the group released their debut album An Episode of Sparrows in 2003 on Pshaw Records. In 2007, they released An Illusion Against Death, produced by John K Samson of the Weakerthans. By 2010, the lineup had changed and they released a double album Lit from Within in January that year and performed at the NXNE Festival in Toronto later that year. The Paperbacks dissolved in 2011 when Doug McLean exited the project.
