Klaus Trumpf, born Klaus-Jürgen Trumpf in 1940 in Görlitz, Germany, is a double bass player and professor. His father, also a double bassist, influenced his early musical training. Trumpf studied at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin from 1962 to 1966 under Horst Butter. He joined the Staatskapelle Berlin (Berlin State Opera) in 1961 and served as their principal double bass player until 1989. Trumpf's international career included performances with the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra. He taught at the Saarbrücken University of Music starting in 1991, then at the Munich University of Music and Performing Arts from 1994 until his retirement in 2007. Trumpf's contributions include founding the International Johann Matthias Sperger Society in 2001 and initiating the International Sperger Competition for Double Bass. He was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit in 2024.
