TidyMess: a pop-rock duo balancing gravity and lightness
The blend of their voices, their consistently heartfelt lyrics, the emotions they convey, their contagious energy, and their deep sense of connection bring us back to the essence of French chanson.
It all began with a stage encounter in 2005, near Pau. Nelly and Thomas met during a tribute show to Daniel Balavoine. It was an artistic love at first sight, marking the beginning of a long journey of shared performances, blending French chanson with Anglo-Saxon rock influences.
In 2016, the desire to tell their own stories, to create and express themselves more deeply, took hold. They began composing their own songs.
Thomas writes the music, on piano or guitar, offering melodies that sometimes soothe, sometimes shake, but always carry us away.
Nelly crafts lyrics filled with sensitivity and humor—her words depict daily life, voicing the joys, sorrows, anger, and fears we all know.
Lyrics and melodies come together, and TidyMess deliver a performance that is moving, sparkling, and fiery, fully expressing their connection and creativity. With passion and generosity, they sing their stories—stories that are also ours—as they perform across the region, winning over a growing audience.
In 2019, TidyMess released their first album, supported by a crowdfunding campaign. That March, the album release concert at the Espace James Chambaud in Lons was sold out. Nearly 500 people were captivated by the band’s professionalism, intense energy, and stage presence, as they connected warmly with the audience through songs that ranged from humorous to delicate to deeply emotional.
2019 also brought TidyMess to several stages and festivals, including Festilac in Lourenties (opening for Jérémy Frérot), Musicalagos in Lagos, La Croisée des Notes in Oloron, Les Arts au Bord de l’Eau in Gomer, Rue du Bizeou in Arboucave (opening for Babylon Circus), and the Zénith in Pau for the Béarnais of the Year event.
The first album was re-released in 2023 in a rearranged version with seven additional tracks, making up for a disrupted initial distribution due to the pandemic.
That same year, a second successful crowdfunding campaign supported the recording of a new album, filled with light and shadow, rage and tenderness, joy and sorrow.
Guided by their signature taste for “orderly chaos,” TidyMess premiered the new material live in January 2024 at a once-again sold-out Espace Chambaud, ahead of its release a few months later.
In 2025, TidyMess will continue touring venues and festivals, sharing their songs and echoing our lives.
