Jesus Loves You is the name of the short-lived band formed by Boy George during his spiritual evolution, between 1989 and 1992. A blend of house and ambient with an Indian influence, the group was completed by Richard Cottle and Jon Quarmby (keyboards), John Themis (guitar), Jagdeep Singh (tablas) and Colin Elliot (percussion), and was formed after Boy George's success with Culture Club, then solo with three successive albums. The singer then turned his attention to electronic dance music and current trends through his own More Protein label. Taking the pseudonym Angela Dust for his songwriting, he enjoyed chart success with "After the Love" (No. 68 in 1989), "Generations of Love" (No. 80) and "One on One" (No. 83) in 1990, which also saw the release of the single album The Martyrs Mantras (No. 60). In 1991, after "Bow Down Mister" (#27 in the UK and #6 in Germany), a remix of "Generations of Love" by La La Gone Gaga Mix reached #35, while a new version of "After the Love" reached #77. A final hit came in 1992 with "Sweet Toxic Love" (no. 65). Imbued with the Hare Krishna philosophy after a trip to India, Boy George managed to revive his career after his drug addiction problems, and Jesus Loves You even performed in Russia in July 1992. While a second album was in preparation, Virgin Records, disappointed by the commercial performance of the project, decided to release the songs as singles, leading to the break-up of the band.
