Defryme, an Australian rock group formed in 1989 in the Melbourne suburb of Frankston, emerged from the local music scene with a hard‑edge sound that reflected the city's vibrant underground. Their breakthrough came with the single "Pure Killer" in 1993, which paved the way for the 1994 release of Purekiller (Suck on This Limited Edition) under BMG Australia; the album peaked at number 4 on the ARIA album charts in June 1994. Subsequent singles-including "God Inside A Man", "Pure Killer" a cover of L.L. Cool J's "Mama Said Knock You Out", and "Sanity" solidified their presence on Australian radio. After a brief hiatus, Defryme re‑emerged in 2010 with the single "Sup?" and a series of live performances, followed by a 2014 tour that featured a full‑album rendition of Purekiller and the single "Audrey". In 2021 the lineup changed and the single "The Snake" was released, while the 2024 EP Starkiller added new material to their catalog.
