Scharoun Ensemble, a German chamber music group, was founded in 1983 by members of the Berliner Philharmoniker. The ensemble made its public debut performing Franz Schubert's Octet in F major D. 803. Named after architect Hans Scharoun, designer of the Berliner Philharmonie, the group's core consists of clarinet, horn, bassoon, two violins, viola, cello, and double bass. In 2011, they released Beethoven Septett op.29 - Sextett op.71, which won the International Classical Music Awards for Chamber Music in the Number 1 position in 2012. The ensemble has also collaborated with notable artists such as Daniel Reuss and Andrew Staples, released albums like Frank Martin's Le Vin herbé and Hans Werner Henze's Neue Volkslieder Und Hirtengesänge; Kammermusik 1958. Since 2005, the Scharoun Ensemble has organized the annual Zermatt Festival.
